Flipkart Rolls Out Credit Card Bill Payments Feature

SUMMARY

Flipkart introduced credit card bill payments on its platform with zero convenience fee via Bharat Bill Payment Service, marking its latest expansion in digital payments

The feature adds to Flipkart’s existing bill payment services launched in 2023, which now cover nine categories including mobile, electricity, and DTH recharges

The credit card bill payments category ranks fifth on BBPS in transaction volume, accounting for 62% of all BBPS payment value since RBI’s mandate in July

Flipkart has expanded its digital payments portfolio by rolling out the credit card bill payment facility. The ecommerce company has integrated this feature with Bharat Bill Payment Service (BBPS) and offers it with zero convenience fee on Flipkart Pay.

Credit card bill payments is the fifth-largest category on BBPS in terms of transactions and makes up 62% of all BBPS payments in value terms since the RBI mandated last July that all credit card bill payments be routed through Bharat Connect.

“The addition of credit card bill payments on our Recharges and Bill Payments platform reflects our commitment to becoming the preferred one-stop solution for all payment needs,” Gaurav Arora, vice-president for payments and SuperCoin at Flipkart, said.

The company introduced its Recharges and Bill Payments service in 2023 on Bharat Connect, where it operates as an Agent Institution under BBPS. The platform supports nine categories, including mobile prepaid, postpaid, electricity, broadband, landline, Fastag, DTH, LPG cylinder, and gas payments.

The platform currently supports nine categories including mobile prepaid, postpaid, electricity, broadband, landline, Fastag, DTH, LPG cylinder, and gas payments.

This launch expands Flipkart’s fintech portfolio, which began with recharges and bill payments in 2023 under Bharat Connect. In July 2024, the company added services like Fastag, DTH recharges, landline, broadband, and mobile postpaid bill payments through a partnership with BillDesk.

The company also operates super.money, its digital payments platform launched in 2023, which offers UPI services along with cashbacks and rewards on Flipkart, Myntra and Shopsy.
